Eyemouth Museum is the home of local stories and artefacts!
Eyemouth Museum is based in the centre of the town and documents the fishing and social heritage of Eyemouth, brought to life in its exhibits and through stories from local people. As a museum, visitor information centre, exhibition gallery and gift shop, we’re sure you’ll find more than one reason to visit.
The Museum is home to the incredible Eyemouth Tapestry which depicts the Great Fishing Disaster of 1881 in which 189 Berwickshire fishermen died at sea. Another related moving display is the “Pickit Men” installation which should the men as clay figure wrapped in shrouds for burial at sea.
You will also find the Virtual Reality Eyemouth Fort Experience in which you can see Eyemouth Fort as it was in its glory days. The VR tour let’s you explore the fort whilst you will then of it’s history from the informative audio tracks.
Eyemouth Museum also host a family history research facility which is manned by a Research Assistant between 10am-12pm and is also available by appointment.
