Has your interest been sparked by the archaeological digs we have carried out at the site of the old signal station over the last 3 years? Would you like to find out more about this and other archaeological sites on the reserve and maybe even get stuck in? Then why not join our residential Thistle Camp in late August/early September?
2020 is the 40th anniversary of the NTS acquiring St Abb’s and you’ll be part of this summer’s big dig! In the past three years we have under taken small archaeological assessments and we’ll continue our explorations to learn more about this important property. We’ll carry out work on the site of a signal station which dates from the Napoleonic wars to the early 20th century, plus we investigate an area of possibly prehistoric activity. The work will help inform our conservation activity now and in the future, whilst helping to raise public awareness of the work that the NTS does to manage St Abb’s Head National Nature Reserve. Reasonable adjustments can be made for this camp if you have additional support needs. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.
During this project we’ll have use of three holiday cottages on a small estate near the attractive village of Churnside. One of the cottages will be our catering and social hub. With lovely views over the Borders countryside and wood burning stoves, they’ll be a very comfortable base for the week.
